What is a Precursor Cell Marker : TdT Test?
This test measures the presence of TdT (terminal deoxynucleotyl transferase), an enzyme found in immature white blood cells. TdT is normally present in early precursor lymphoid cells and not in mature blood cells. Detecting TdT helps identify and classify blood cancers that start in immature cells. It is most useful for diagnosing and monitoring acute lymphoblastic leukemia and lymphoblastic lymphoma. Doctors use TdT together with other markers in flow cytometry or tissue staining to confirm a diagnosis, to guide treatment choices, and to track how well treatment is working or if disease returns. Results are interpreted alongside blood counts and other laboratory and clinical findings.

Precursor Cell Marker : TdT is usually part of a leukemia/lymphoma immunophenotyping panel used in flow cytometry or tissue staining. Doctors order it when blood counts are abnormal or when symptoms like fatigue, infections, bruising, or swollen lymph nodes appear. It helps diagnose and classify acute lymphoblastic leukemia and related conditions. Abnormal results most often reflect malignancy of immature blood cells, and family history of blood cancers may prompt earlier testing.
