A lateral view of the paranasal sinuses is a side X‑ray projection that visualizes the frontal, sphenoid, maxillary sinuses and ethmoid air cells in profile. It helps detect sinusitis, air‑fluid levels, mucosal thickening, polyps, and fractures. Performed with the head in a true lateral position and a horizontal X‑ray beam, it complements Waters and other sinus views for diagnosis and follow‑up.

A PNS scan (paranasal sinuses imaging) evaluates the sinuses and nearby structures to diagnose and monitor sinus disease. It identifies sinusitis, mucosal thickening, fluid levels, polyps, anatomical variations, fractures and complications such as orbital or intracranial extension. It helps guide treatment decisions—medical therapy, image-guided procedures, or surgical planning—and monitors response to treatment or recurrence.

The PNS (paranasal sinuses) view is also called the occipitomental or Waters' view. It positions the patient’s head to project the maxillary sinuses and osteomeatal complex with minimal superimposition, commonly used to evaluate sinusitis, fractures, and fluid levels. Other complementary projections include the Caldwell (occipitofrontal) and lateral sinus views for a complete assessment.

The lateral view is an X‑ray projection that images the body from the side to show depth and spatial relationships of structures. It complements frontal (AP/PA) views by revealing fractures, dislocations, spinal alignment, joint spaces, chest pathology (retrocardiac/retrosternal) and airway or soft‑tissue abnormalities obscured on frontal images. It’s commonly used for chest, cervical spine, skull, wrist and ankle imaging.

A lateral view shows the body from the side, highlighting structures farther from the midline (the lateral aspect). In radiography, a lateral chest x‑ray is typically a left lateral film, obtained with the patient's left side against the detector while the x‑ray beam enters from the right; this profile better demonstrates anterior–posterior relationships and posterior lung fields.

Recovery after a CT PNS (paranasal sinuses) scan is essentially immediate — you can usually resume normal activities right away. If IV contrast is used, you may be observed for about 15–30 minutes for reactions and should drink fluids to help flush the contrast. Rare delayed allergic effects can occur. If a sedative was given, avoid driving and follow staff instructions.
