A "whole spine X‑ray lat" is a single lateral radiograph that images the entire spinal column—from cervical through sacral levels—usually with the patient standing. It assesses spinal alignment and curves (scoliosis, kyphosis), vertebral fractures, degeneration, and aids surgical planning or follow‑up. Preparation is minimal; it involves low‑dose radiation and is interpreted by a radiologist.

AP (anteroposterior) means the X‑ray beam travels from the front (anterior) to the back (posterior) of the body; used for supine or portable exams and can magnify the heart or reduce lung detail. Lat (lateral) is a side‑to‑side projection where the beam passes through one lateral side to the other, giving depth and separating overlapping structures (often left lateral for chest).

An X‑ray LS spine AP LAT is a radiographic exam of the lumbosacral spine using two projections: anteroposterior (AP) and lateral (LAT). It evaluates vertebral alignment, fractures, degenerative changes, disc space narrowing, and spondylolisthesis. The test is quick, noninvasive, uses low-dose radiation, may require removing metal, and is avoided or modified in pregnancy unless essential.

For an AP lumbar spine X‑ray, position the patient supine or upright with their back against the image receptor. Align the midsagittal plane to midline, keep shoulders and hips level, and flex the knees to reduce lordosis. Center the x‑ray beam at L3 (≈1.5 in/4 cm above the iliac crests), include T12–S1, and suspend respiration during exposure.

A "lat view" (lateral view) in X‑ray is a side-on radiographic image taken with the X‑ray beam passing from one side of the body to the other. It complements frontal (AP/PA) images by showing depth and spatial relationships, helping detect fractures, alignment problems, fluid levels, air, or posterior chest and spine pathology. The patient stands or lies with the affected side against the detector.

You may sometimes wear a bra during an X‑ray if it’s non‑metallic and the scanned area isn’t the chest or breasts, but many facilities ask you to remove bras with underwires, hooks or metal fastenings because metal causes image artifacts. For mammograms and most chest/upper‑body X‑rays you’ll be asked to remove it. Always follow the radiographer’s instructions and tell them if you’re pregnant.
