L spine AP stands for a lumbar spine anteroposterior radiograph: an X‑ray taken front‑to‑back that images the lumbar vertebrae. It helps assess vertebral alignment, fractures, degenerative changes and major bony abnormalities. Patients are usually supine or standing. An AP view is a basic screening tool; additional lateral views, obliques, CT or MRI are often needed to evaluate discs, nerves and soft tissues.

An X-ray of the thoracic spine visualizes the vertebral bodies, intervertebral disc spaces (indirectly), vertebral alignment and curvature, facet joints, rib articulations and bony abnormalities such as fractures, bone loss, osteoarthritis/osteophytes and calcifications. It can detect structural deformities (kyphosis/scoliosis) but cannot reliably show soft tissues, the spinal cord or disc herniation—MRI/CT are needed for those.

An AP spine L1–L4 is an anteroposterior X‑ray view that images the lumbar vertebrae from L1 through L4. It assesses vertebral alignment, body height, disc spaces, fractures, infection, and degenerative changes. The film is taken front‑to‑back with the patient standing or supine; minimal preparation is needed. Radiation exposure is low, and findings guide further imaging or treatment.

The "L" in the spine labels the lumbar vertebrae (L1–L5). Located in the lower back between the thoracic and sacral regions, the lumbar spine supports much of the body’s weight, enables bending and twisting, and protects the spinal cord and nerves. It’s a common source of back pain, disc herniation, and nerve compression because of its load-bearing role and mobility.
