A soft‑tissue neck X‑ray (lateral and AP views) visualizes the airway and surrounding soft tissues — pharynx, epiglottis, larynx and trachea — plus prevertebral tissues and cervical spine alignment. It detects airway narrowing, foreign bodies, soft‑tissue swelling, retropharyngeal abscess or epiglottitis signs, masses or calcifications, and fractures or deformities that may affect breathing, swallowing or neck trauma assessment.
