An AP (anteroposterior) hip view is an X‑ray taken front‑to‑back, usually with the patient supine and both legs slightly internally rotated to profile the femoral necks. It images the pelvis, acetabula, femoral heads and necks to evaluate fractures, dislocation, arthritis, implant position and joint space. It’s a standard initial radiograph for hip pain or trauma.

A 4‑view hip X‑ray obtains four different projections—commonly anteroposterior (AP) pelvis, AP hip, and two lateral/oblique views (for example frog‑leg and cross‑table lateral). Multiple angles improve detection of fractures, dislocations, joint‑space narrowing, and other bone or soft‑tissue abnormalities. Radiation exposure is low, but positioning can be painful; analgesia and gentle handling are used. Results may prompt further imaging (CT/MRI) if unclear.

AP (anteroposterior) and PA (posteroanterior) are chest X‑ray projections: AP passes X‑rays front-to-back (beam enters the anterior chest), often used for portable or supine patients; PA passes beam back-to-front with the patient standing. PA is preferred for routine chest films because it reduces heart magnification and gives clearer lung detail; AP can exaggerate heart size.

Standard hip X-ray views include an AP pelvis (both hips) and an AP hip. Lateral projections include the frog‑leg (Lauenstein) for routine assessment and the cross‑table lateral (horizontal‑beam/axiolateral) for trauma or when frog‑leg isn’t possible. Judet oblique views (iliac and obturator) are added to evaluate acetabular fractures and complex pelvic anatomy.

AP view in radiology means an anteroposterior projection where the X‑ray beam passes from the front (anterior) to the back (posterior) of the body. The detector is placed posteriorly. It’s commonly used for chest, abdomen and extremity imaging when patients can’t stand for a posterior‑anterior (PA) film. AP projection can magnify the cardiac silhouette and alter lung appearances compared with PA views.

Apophysitis is an overuse injury of the apophysis (growth‑plate tendon attachment) that can affect hip sites such as the greater trochanter or ischial tuberosity. It causes localized pain worsened by activity in adolescents during growth spurts. Diagnosis is clinical, sometimes supported by imaging. Treatment is conservative: activity modification, physiotherapy, pain relief and gradual return to sport; surgery is rarely needed.
