A 3D pelvic scan is an imaging test—usually a three-dimensional ultrasound—that creates volumetric images of pelvic organs (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder). It gives better spatial detail than 2D scans, helping diagnose fibroids, cysts, congenital uterine anomalies, pelvic pain causes, and infertility issues. A 3D ultrasound is typically performed in the late second to early third trimester—most commonly around months 6–8 (about 26–32 weeks)—when fetal fat and amniotic fluid provide clearer facial images. A pelvic scan is usually not painful. A transabdominal ultrasound may cause pressure or fullness from a full bladder; a transvaginal scan can feel uncomfortable or cause brief cramping or pressure when the probe is inserted but is generally well tolerated.
