If symptoms persist, are severe, or deeper structures are suspected, MRI gives the most detailed assessment of bone marrow, soft tissues and occult tears. Choice depends on clinical exam and suspected cause.

The best treatment for heel pain is conservative care: rest, ice, stretching exercises for the calf and plantar fascia, supportive shoes and custom or off‑the‑shelf orthotics or heel pads, and short‑term NSAIDs for pain. Physical therapy and night splints help persistent cases; corticosteroid injections are used if symptoms linger. Surgery is rare. Weight loss and activity modification aid recovery.
