Yes, swine flu (influenza A/H1N1) can be diagnosed from respiratory swabs. Clinicians commonly use nasopharyngeal or combined nasal/throat swabs; throat-only swabs are less sensitive. Laboratory PCR testing is most accurate, while rapid tests are less reliable. Testing is usually reserved for hospitalized or high‑risk patients, pregnant women, or when results will affect treatment or public‑health decisions.
