What is a Three Phase Bone Scan Spectrum Test?
A three-phase bone scan measures how a small amount of radioactive tracer travels to and is taken up by your bones. It shows both blood flow and how active bone cells are in a given area. This helps identify fractures, infections, arthritis, bone tumors, and areas of bone healing or inflammation. Doctors use it to find the cause of unexplained bone pain, to locate infection or a suspected broken bone, and to check whether cancer has spread to bone. Images from the three phases—blood flow, blood pool, and delayed bone uptake—give a more complete picture than a single snapshot.
