High protein C activity is uncommon. It most often reflects recent protein C replacement or blood-product transfusion, laboratory assay variability or interference, rather than a primary disease. In isolation it rarely causes clinical problems and does not typically increase bleeding risk. Active protein C is a vitamin K–dependent serine protease that regulates coagulation and inflammation.
