The NCV (nerve conduction velocity) test of the right upper limb measures how fast and how strongly electrical signals travel along the arm’s peripheral nerves. Small surface electrodes deliver mild pulses and record responses to assess latency, amplitude and conduction velocity. It helps diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome, neuropathy, radiculopathy or nerve injury. The test is noninvasive, mildly uncomfortable, and typically takes 30–60 minutes.

NCV (nerve conduction) test costs vary widely. In India private centres typically charge about ₹500–3,000. In the US out-of-pocket prices generally range from $200–2,000 (higher if combined with EMG). In the UK the test is free on the NHS; private clinics charge roughly £150–600. Prices depend on location, facility, and whether EMG is done alongside NCV; insurance may cover some costs.

You’ll feel brief, sharp or tingling electrical pulses and sometimes muscle twitches; discomfort is typically mild-to-moderate and short-lived. Some people find it more uncomfortable, and local soreness can last a day. The procedure is safe, quick, and helps diagnose nerve problems—tell your clinician if you’re anxious or in pain.

Peripheral nerve injuries often improve or recover over months to years with rest, physical therapy, pain medications, and sometimes surgical repair or grafting — regeneration is slow. Injuries to the brain or spinal cord rarely fully recover, but rehabilitation, medications, neurostimulation and emerging interventions can improve function and quality of life.
