MRI neurography is a specialized MRI technique that produces high-resolution images of peripheral nerves and surrounding soft tissues. It helps detect nerve injury, compression (entrapment), inflammation, or tumors by showing nerve signal changes and anatomy. Often uses targeted sequences and sometimes contrast to improve visualization. It is noninvasive and aids diagnosis, surgical planning, and monitoring of nerve disorders.

MRI of the lower limb is a non‑invasive imaging test that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed pictures of the hip, thigh, knee, leg, ankle and foot. It visualizes bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels to diagnose injuries, inflammation, infections, tumors, vascular problems or arthritis. Mononeuropathy of the right lower limb is damage to a single peripheral nerve supplying that leg, causing numbness, tingling, burning, pain, weakness (often foot drop), and altered reflexes in one nerve’s distribution. An MRI won’t directly show most small‑fiber peripheral neuropathies, but it can reveal structural or compressive causes: nerve root compression from herniated discs, spinal stenosis, tumors, nerve enlargement or enhancement (with contrast), inflammatory changes, and muscle atrophy/denervation. It helps identify treatable causes but may be normal in metabolic or small‑fiber neuropathies, requiring EMG, nerve conduction studies, or skin biopsy.

MRI is a primary tool for detecting many neurological diseases: it reveals structural abnormalities such as tumors, strokes, demyelinating lesions (multiple sclerosis), inflammation, infections, and brain atrophy. Advanced MRI techniques (diffusion, functional, spectroscopy) improve detection of subtle or early changes. However, MRI can miss microscopic, metabolic, or purely functional disorders, which may require EEG, PET, lab tests and clinical assessment.
