If you have dressings or swelling, wear supportive shoes and avoid strenuous activity until advised otherwise.

MRI can detect structural causes of nerve injury in the foot — for example compression, masses, inflammation, or nerve swelling — and specialized MR neurography can show nerve signal changes. However, routine MRI is less sensitive for microscopic or metabolic neuropathies; nerve conduction studies and EMG better assess functional nerve damage.
