MP (Mycoplasma pneumoniae) antibody tests typically report IgM and IgG indices. Common lab cutoffs: IgM <0.9 is negative, 0.9–1.1 equivocal, and ≥1.1 positive. IgG likewise often uses <0.9 negative and ≥1.1 positive (suggesting past or current infection). Reference ranges vary by lab and assay; interpret results with clinical context and consider repeat or confirmatory testing if needed.

Common MP (Mycoplasma pneumoniae) tests include nucleic acid amplification (PCR) on throat swabs or sputum for rapid, sensitive detection; blood serology measuring IgM and IgG antibodies to indicate recent or past infection; culture from respiratory specimens (slow, less used); chest X-ray to assess pneumonia; and cold agglutinin testing, which is nonspecific and rarely used alone.

An MP test positive indicates detection of Mycoplasma pneumoniae, a bacterium that commonly causes “atypical” respiratory infections. A positive PCR or rising IgM suggests active or recent infection; isolated IgG often reflects past exposure or later-stage illness. Clinicians interpret results with symptoms and timing; treatment typically involves antibiotics effective against atypical pathogens (for example, macrolides or doxycycline) when clinically indicated.

High CRP indicates acute or chronic inflammation. Causes include infections (bacterial or viral), autoimmune and inflammatory diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, inflammatory bowel disease), tissue injury or recent surgery, sepsis, certain cancers, and chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease. Smoking and other lifestyle factors can raise CRP. It’s a nonspecific marker requiring further evaluation.
