A fetal echocardiogram evaluates the unborn baby’s heart structure and function to detect congenital heart defects (septal defects, outflow tract and valve abnormalities), heart size and performance, blood flow patterns, and rhythm problems (arrhythmias). It also looks for signs of cardiomyopathy or related cardiac complications, aiding prenatal counseling, monitoring, and delivery planning.
