What is a EXTENDED ALPA TEST Test?
The extended ALP test measures alkaline phosphatase (ALP), an enzyme made mainly by the liver and bones. ALP helps with normal bone growth and the flow of bile from the liver. Measuring ALP shows whether there is a problem with the liver, bile ducts, or bone. An extended panel can separate ALP into isoenzymes to find the source of abnormal results. Doctors use it to investigate symptoms like jaundice, abdominal pain, unexplained bone pain, or abnormal liver imaging. It also helps monitor known liver disease, bone disorders, and response to treatment.

Why Take a EXTENDED ALPA TEST Test?
EXTENDED ALPA TEST is usually part of a liver or bone panel and may be ordered when you have jaundice, abdominal pain, dark urine, fatigue, or unexplained bone pain. It helps diagnose liver disease, bile duct obstruction, bone disorders, and some cancers. Abnormal results can come from liver inflammation, blocked bile flow, bone growth or breakdown, certain medications, or heavy alcohol use. A family history of liver or bone disease may make this test more important.
