DHEA is an adrenal steroid hormone used as a supplement for certain conditions: adrenal insufficiency, some cases of depression and lupus, and to improve sexual function and bone density in older adults. Discuss symptoms and any supplements with your doctor before starting, especially if you have hormonal or medical conditions.

DHEA is sometimes used off-label for women with diminished ovarian reserve or poor ovarian response; small studies suggest it may improve egg quantity, quality and IVF outcomes for some, but evidence is mixed and not definitive. It can cause androgenic side effects and interact with medications. Use only under a fertility specialist’s supervision with proper dosing and monitoring.
