A CT PNS (computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses) is a detailed X‑ray scan used to assess sinus anatomy and disease. It identifies sinusitis, mucosal thickening, polyps, fluid levels, fractures, and masses, and detects complications such as orbital or intracranial spread. It’s commonly used for recurrent or chronic symptoms, facial trauma evaluation, and preoperative planning for sinus surgery.

CT scan of paranasal sinuses typically costs: in India about ₹700–₹4,000 at diagnostic centers; in the United Kingdom it's free on the NHS (private scans roughly £100–£600); in the United States prices commonly range from $300–$3,000. Exact cost depends on location, facility type, use of contrast, and additional reporting or specialist fees.

A CT orbit test is a specialized computed tomography scan that images the eye sockets, eyelids, optic nerves, and surrounding bones and sinuses. It detects fractures, infections, tumors, foreign bodies, inflammatory or vascular conditions and assesses trauma. It may use contrast for better soft-tissue detail. The exam is quick (minutes), noninvasive, and commonly ordered after injury or when vision problems, swelling, or pain require detailed evaluation.

A CT scan of the brain uses X‑rays and computer processing to produce cross‑sectional images of the brain, skull and nearby structures to detect bleeding, fractures, tumors, stroke changes, hydrocephalus and calcifications. For the peripheral nervous system, CT (often with myelography) shows bony anatomy, nerve root exits and foramina and can identify nerve compression; MRI is generally better for soft‑tissue detail. It’s quick and involves radiation; contrast may be given.

CT scan of the paranasal sinuses is generally painless and non‑invasive. You lie still while the machine rotates; the exam usually takes only minutes. Some people feel mild discomfort from lying flat or claustrophobic anxiety. If IV contrast is used, you might notice a brief sting, warmth, or metallic taste. Severe pain is uncommon—report any unusual symptoms.

CT PNS (sinus CT) is tailored to sinuses and bone. It can occasionally show large intracranial masses if they extend into the sinuses or cause bone erosion, but it has limited soft‑tissue contrast and is not reliable for detecting primary brain tumours. MRI with contrast is the investigation of choice for suspected brain tumours; dedicated head CT (with contrast) is more sensitive than CT PNS but still inferior to MRI.
