A CT PNS (CT scan of the paranasal sinuses) is a noninvasive X‑ray–based imaging study that gives detailed cross‑sectional views of the sinuses and surrounding bone. It helps diagnose sinusitis, polyps, mucosal thickening, obstructions, fractures and tumors, and guides surgical planning. Scans are usually low‑dose and performed without contrast, with axial and coronal images to assess anatomy and air–fluid levels.

Costs vary by country and setting. In India a non‑contrast CT PNS typically costs about ₹1,200–5,000 at diagnostic centers. In the UK it’s free on the NHS; privately expect roughly £120–400. In the US private charges generally range from about $200–1,500. Final price depends on location, hospital vs imaging center, use of contrast, and any radiology/reporting fees.

In CT scan reports, PNS stands for paranasal sinuses — the air-filled cavities around the nasal cavity. A CT PNS evaluates sinus anatomy and pathology such as acute or chronic sinusitis, mucosal thickening, polyps, obstruction, fractures, or tumors. It is typically a non-contrast, high-resolution study with axial and coronal images to guide diagnosis and surgical planning.

A CT PNS scan is very quick — the actual imaging usually takes 1–5 minutes. Including registration, positioning and instructions, expect about 10–20 minutes at the imaging center. If intravenous contrast is needed, add time for cannulation and injection (often 15–30 extra minutes). Ask your radiology team for exact scheduling and how long your appointment will take.

A PNS CT scan is generally painless and noninvasive. You lie still while X-rays rotate around your head; you may feel minor discomfort from holding position, claustrophobia, or pressure from head supports. If iodinated contrast is used, you might notice brief warmth, a metallic taste, or injection-site stinging; allergic reactions are rare. The exam itself does not cause lasting pain.

The Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) procedure implants a small lead near a peripheral nerve to deliver electrical pulses that reduce chronic pain. Typically performed percutaneously under local anesthesia with imaging guidance, patients undergo a short trial using an external stimulator; if effective, a permanent implantable pulse generator is placed subcutaneously. Risks include infection, lead migration, skin erosion and device malfunction.
