A CT scan of the neck and chest provides detailed cross-sectional images of the bones, soft tissues, airways, lungs, heart borders, major blood vessels, lymph nodes, thyroid, salivary glands, and esophagus. It detects fractures, tumors, infections, abscesses, inflammation, enlarged lymph nodes, vascular abnormalities (aneurysm, dissection), pulmonary embolism, and metastatic disease, guiding diagnosis and treatment planning.

In India, a CT scan of the neck typically costs between ₹1,500 and ₹6,500. A plain (non‑contrast) CT often ranges ₹1,500–3,000; with contrast it’s usually ₹3,000–6,500 or higher at premium private centres. Prices vary by city, hospital type, and additional fees (radiologist report, consultations); government hospitals are generally cheaper than private/metro centres.

A neck CT scan itself usually takes 1–5 minutes of imaging. With patient positioning and setup expect about 10–20 minutes. If intravenous contrast is used, allow extra time for injection and observation — the overall appointment often lasts 20–60 minutes. Complex studies or delays can extend this, but the actual imaging acquisition is typically very quick.

Prepare by bringing ID and a medication list and arriving on time. You may be asked to fast 4–6 hours but can usually drink water. Tell staff about iodine/contrast allergies, prior reactions, kidney disease, diabetes (metformin may be held and restarted 48 hours after contrast with renal testing), or pregnancy. It also identifies chest‑wall tumours, pulmonary carcinoid tumours, and enlarged lymph nodes suspicious for cancer. CT shows lesion size, location, multiplicity and local spread but often requires biopsy for diagnosis.
