What is a Barium Test?
The barium test measures the amount of barium metal in the blood. Barium is not needed by the body and can be harmful in high amounts. Measuring barium helps find recent or ongoing exposure to soluble barium compounds. It is useful after accidental ingestion, contaminated water exposure, or workplace contact. Doctors use the result to confirm poisoning, decide on treatments, and monitor recovery or removal of the metal over time.
