3D Ultrasound Thigh

Thigh ultrasound can detect muscle and tendon injuries (tears, strains), hematomas and fluid collections, abscesses, cysts and soft‑tissue masses, and inflammatory changes. It can evaluate major vessels for deep vein thrombosis, identify foreign bodies, and guide aspiration or injections. It’s limited for bone assessment and some deep pelvic structures, so MRI/CT may be needed for complex or deep lesions.

A 3D (or 4D) ultrasound is usually done in the late second to early third trimester—commonly between 26 and 32 weeks’ gestation (about months 6.5–8). At this stage the baby’s facial features are developed and there’s still adequate amniotic fluid, giving clearer surface images. Scans can be done earlier or later for medical reasons, but image quality is optimal in that window.

It also aids gynecologic imaging (uterine and ovarian structure), musculoskeletal and small‑organ assessment, tumor characterization, and procedural guidance (biopsies, injections). It complements 2D scans by showing clearer structural detail.

Yes. Ultrasound can detect soft tissue tumors in the leg, particularly superficial masses. It helps distinguish cystic from solid lesions, assesses blood flow with Doppler, and can guide needle biopsy. It is less accurate for deep or intraosseous lesions and provides limited tissue characterization. MRI is usually preferred for detailed assessment and staging. Final diagnosis requires histology (biopsy).

Yes. Compression duplex Doppler ultrasound is the primary noninvasive test to detect deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the legs. It visualizes clots and assesses blood flow; it’s highly accurate for proximal (above‑knee) DVT but less sensitive for distal (calf) clots. If inconclusive or suspicion remains high, additional tests (D‑dimer, repeat ultrasound, or advanced imaging) may be recommended.
