ThinPrep is a liquid‑based cytology method rather than the conventional Pap smear. It typically yields fewer unsatisfactory samples, gives cleaner cellular preservation and allows reflex HPV testing, which can improve diagnostic workflow. ThinPrep (liquid-based Pap) results usually take 1–3 weeks; most people get results within about two weeks. If additional testing (HPV typing, repeat cytology, or specialist review) is needed, processing can take 4–6 weeks.
