A positive rheumatoid factor (IgM) means your blood contains IgM antibodies that target other antibodies (usually IgG). It often supports a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and may be linked to more severe or erosive disease, but it isn’t definitive. RF can occur with other autoimmune conditions, infections, and in older adults. Clinical assessment, anti‑CCP testing, and imaging are needed for accurate diagnosis and management.

Rheumatoid factor (RF IgM) reference ranges vary by laboratory and assay, but a common normal range is below approximately 14–20 IU/mL.
