Brain angiography MRI, or MR angiography (MRA), is a noninvasive scan that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of cerebral blood vessels. It can be done with or without gadolinium contrast (or with time‑of‑flight techniques) to detect aneurysms, vessel narrowing, arteriovenous malformations, or clots. It avoids ionizing radiation and helps guide diagnosis and treatment.

MRI can detect brain artery blockage. MR angiography (MRA) visualizes cerebral vessels and can identify occlusions or severe narrowing, while diffusion‑ and perfusion‑weighted MRI show resulting ischemia and tissue at risk.
