A CT scan is not the primary test to detect cervical cancer. Screening (Pap smear, HPV testing) and diagnosis require colposcopy and biopsy. CT has limited sensitivity for small early lesions, so a normal CT does not rule out early cervical cancer; tissue diagnosis is required.

A CT scan of the cervical spine typically takes about 10–30 minutes in total. The actual scanning is quick—usually 5–10 minutes—while positioning, safety checks and paperwork add another 5–20 minutes. If IV contrast or extra imaging is needed, allow additional time for injection and short observation. Emergency studies may be faster; routine appointments generally fit within half an hour.

MRI is generally better for spine soft tissues — discs, nerves and the spinal cord — and avoids radiation, so it’s preferred for degenerative disease, nerve compression and infection. CT gives superior bone detail, detects fractures, and is faster or usable with some implants. The optimal choice depends on the clinical question, urgency, and patient contraindications; your clinician will recommend the appropriate scan.

The most common cause of neck pain is muscle strain and soft‑tissue irritation, usually from poor posture or prolonged positions (for example, looking down at phones or working at a computer), repetitive movements, or sudden awkward motions. Symptoms include stiffness, soreness, and limited motion. Most improve with posture correction, gentle stretching, activity modification, short rest, and over‑the‑counter pain relief; seek care if severe or persistent.
