A CT scan of the right lower limb is a cross-sectional X‑ray imaging study of the leg (hip to foot) that produces detailed images of bones, joints, muscles, blood vessels and soft tissues. It's used to assess fractures, joint injury, infection, tumors and vascular problems (with CT angiography). The noninvasive test is quick, may use contrast dye, and exposes the area to ionizing radiation.

A single CT scan is generally considered safe: the diagnostic benefit usually outweighs its small radiation risk. Radiation from one CT equals months to a few years of background exposure, so cancer risk from one scan is very low. Children and pregnant women are more sensitive. CT angiography is generally not painful. You may feel a brief sting from the IV and a warm flushing sensation or metallic taste when contrast is injected; some people have mild nausea or a transient headache. Lying still in the scanner can be uncomfortable for claustrophobic patients. Serious complications are rare, but tell staff about allergies, kidney problems, or pregnancy beforehand.

A single-phase CT scan acquires images during one timed acquisition—either without contrast or after a single contrast injection—capturing anatomy at one vascular/contrast phase. It’s faster and uses less radiation and contrast than multiphase CT, making it suitable for kidney stones, lungs, trauma, or routine follow-up. Limitation: it may miss lesions requiring arterial or delayed-phase imaging.
