CT Scan Pelvis Contrast, in Visit Clinic

A pelvic CT scan with contrast provides detailed cross‑sectional images of pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, ovaries, prostate, rectum), pelvic bones, blood vessels and lymph nodes. Contrast enhances vascular structures and improves detection and characterization of tumors, abscesses, inflammation, stones, fractures and bleeding. It is used to evaluate pelvic pain, unexplained bleeding, infection, trauma, suspected cancer or metastases, staging, and treatment planning.

Whether pelvic CT requires contrast depends on the clinical question. IV contrast is commonly used to evaluate tumors, infection, abscess, and vascular or inflammatory processes, improving detection and characterization. Non-contrast CT can suffice for stones or acute trauma assessment. Oral or rectal contrast may be added to delineate bowel. Kidney function and allergy history guide contrast use; clinicians decide case-by-case.

Fast 4–6 hours before the scan unless told otherwise. Tell the clinic about allergies, pregnancy, and all meds (especially metformin — you may be asked to stop it and wait 48 hours after the scan until kidney tests are checked). Bring recent kidney function results if available. Remove jewelry, wear loose clothing, arrive early, hydrate well before and after, and follow any facility-specific bladder/oral-contrast instructions.

A CT scan for a toddler is a fast X‑ray imaging test that creates detailed cross‑sectional pictures of the brain, chest, abdomen or bones. It helps diagnose injury, infection, bleeding or congenital problems. Scans are quick but use small amounts of radiation; staff minimize dose. Toddlers may need sedation to stay still. Parents should discuss risks, fasting and comfort measures with the team.

A pelvic CT can detect pelvic malignancies including bladder, prostate, rectal and distal colon cancers, ovarian and other adnexal tumours, uterine (endometrial) and cervical cancers, and pelvic bone lesions. It also identifies enlarged pelvic lymph nodes, local invasion, peritoneal disease and distant metastases within the pelvis, aiding staging and treatment planning. Sensitivity varies; further tests may be required.

Usually you do not need to fast before a pelvic CT scan. Exceptions: if oral contrast is required you may be asked to avoid eating for a few hours and drink the contrast as instructed; if IV contrast is planned you might be told to avoid eating for 2 to 4 hours beforehand and to adjust diabetes medications (especially metformin). Always follow the imaging center’s specific instructions.
