A lower abdomen CT scan (abdominopelvic CT) visualizes lower abdominal and pelvic organs and structures — intestines, appendix, bladder, reproductive organs (uterus, ovaries, prostate), kidneys, blood vessels, lymph nodes, bones and surrounding soft tissues. It detects tumors, abscesses, inflammation, bowel obstruction or perforation, kidney/ureteral stones, and bleeding. Contrast may be used to better define vessels and lesions.

Exact timing depends on hospital workflow, radiologist availability and imaging volume, but urgent abnormalities are acted on immediately rather than waiting for routine reporting.
