The HBV DNA viral load test measures the quantity of hepatitis B virus genetic material (DNA) in blood using sensitive PCR techniques. It reports viral level (usually in IU/mL) to assess infection activity, estimate infectivity, guide antiviral treatment decisions, monitor treatment response or resistance, and help predict disease progression, so clinicians can decide on and adjust therapy.
