What is a X Ray Sella Test in Coimbatore ?
What is X Ray Sella?
An X Ray Sella is an X-ray focused on the sella turcica, the small bony cavity that holds the pituitary gland. It shows the size, shape, and bone borders of that area. It is non-invasive and shows internal structures directly, providing information that blood and urine tests cannot.
What does X Ray Sella show?
The pituitary gland controls many important hormones in the body. Changes in the sella can signal pituitary tumours, cysts, empty sella syndrome, or bone problems. Doctors use this image to investigate headaches, vision changes, hormonal imbalances, or after head injury. It is a simple, quick test.
What symptoms suggest X Ray Sella may be needed?
X Ray Sella is generally requested as part of a imaging assessment. Doctors commonly investigate this area when someone reports localised pain, swelling, or injury, a lump or restricted movement, or an abnormal finding on an earlier test that needs to be examined directly. Whether X Ray Sella specifically is the right test depends on your history and what your doctor is looking for. In Coimbatore, you can book this test online and check whether home collection reaches Ganapathy, Hopes College or your address.
How is X Ray Sella done?
No needle or sample is involved. At an accredited imaging centre serving Ganapathy and Hopes College, Coimbatore, a radiographer performs the scan, which is painless and usually completed within 10 to 15 minutes. A qualified radiologist interprets the images and issues a report you can access on GetVisit. (Home collection does not apply to imaging.)
How accurate is X Ray Sella?
Image quality and interpretation are the two pillars of accuracy. GetVisit's accredited centres serving Ganapathy and Hopes College, Coimbatore maintain modern equipment, and a qualified radiologist reviews each study before the report is issued.
Are there any risks to X Ray Sella?
Imaging is safe and non-invasive. Ultrasound and MRI use no ionising radiation; X-ray and CT use carefully controlled low doses justified by the diagnostic benefit. Inform staff at the Ganapathy or Hopes College, Coimbatore centre if you are pregnant or have implants or metal devices, so precautions can be taken.
Did you know?
The normal sella (sella turcica) in adults is small: anteroposterior length commonly about 5-16 mm, depth (vertical) about 4-12 mm, and transverse width roughly 10-13 mm.
X Ray Sella Test Preparation in Coimbatore
Fasting and dietary instructions:
Most imaging scans need no fasting. Some abdominal ultrasounds require a few hours of fasting or a full bladder, so follow the specific instruction shown when you book, or ask the centre.
Medication guidance:
Continue your regular medication unless told otherwise. Tell the centre if you have diabetes, kidney problems, or allergies, especially if a contrast study is planned.
What to bring:
Bring your doctor's referral, a valid photo ID, your insurance card if using cashless OPD, and any previous scans or reports so the radiologist can compare.
Timing:
Book a slot that suits you at an accredited GetVisit centre in Saibaba Colony or Kovaipudur, Coimbatore. Wear loose clothing without metal fasteners, and remove jewellery before the scan.

Why Take a X Ray Sella Test in Coimbatore ?
When does a doctor order X Ray Sella?
X Ray Sella is often ordered as part of pituitary or skull imaging when a doctor suspects pituitary disease. Symptoms that prompt it include persistent headaches, changes in vision, or signs of hormone imbalance.
Who should get X Ray Sella done in Coimbatore?
Coimbatore's large textile and engineering workforce, growing IT corridor, rice-based diet driving diabetes and heart disease, and northeast-monsoon infection season make regular preventive diagnostic testing worthwhile citywide. Those who benefit most from X Ray Sella include patients needing structural assessment that bloodwork cannot provide, and anyone under surveillance for a previously detected abnormality in Coimbatore.
What can X Ray Sella help detect?
It helps detect tumours, cysts, bone deformities, or empty sella. Abnormal results can come from tumours, raised intracranial pressure, trauma, or congenital differences. A family history of pituitary disorders may make this imaging more important.
What do X Ray Sella results mean?
Findings are graded from normal to significant, and comparison with any previous scan shows whether a known finding is stable, improving, or progressing. Your doctor explains the report in the context of your symptoms. See the FAQs below for more detail on this scan.
How often should X Ray Sella be repeated?
For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends, typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.
What happens after your X Ray Sella results are ready?
Reports arrive digitally and remain in your GetVisit history, so repeat tests can be tracked over months and years. Review anything unexpected with your doctor before changing medication or lifestyle, and use the app to book a follow-up if needed.
