X Ray Right Wrist PA View

PA wrist: patient seated at table with elbow flexed 90°. Forearm pronated so the palmar surface rests flat on the image receptor; fingers may be slightly flexed to bring the wrist closer. Center the wrist joint to the detector, include distal radius and ulna plus proximal metacarpals, and align the long axis of the hand with the receptor. Stabilize and collimate to the wrist.

Standard wrist radiography uses three views: posteroanterior (PA), lateral, and oblique (usually PA oblique). For suspected scaphoid fractures add a scaphoid view (PA with ulnar deviation or a dedicated scaphoid projection). Additional specialized views—carpal tunnel (tangential), radial-deviation, or extra obliques—may be obtained to better visualize carpal bones or specific fracture/dislocation concerns.

A PA (posteroanterior) chest X-ray is taken with the patient standing facing the image detector so the X-ray beam passes from back (posterior) to front (anterior). Shoulders are rolled forward and the exposure is made on full inspiration. PA view reduces cardiac magnification and provides clearer lung and mediastinal detail, making it the standard upright radiograph for routine chest assessment.

The best approach is a three‑view wrist X‑ray: posteroanterior (PA), lateral and oblique. These views together evaluate alignment, joint spaces and fracture lines. If a scaphoid fracture is suspected, add a dedicated scaphoid (ulnar‑deviated PA) view or CT/MRI if initial X‑rays are inconclusive. The lateral is key for assessing dorsal/volar displacement.

A PA (posteroanterior) X-ray is a standard chest radiograph taken with the patient’s chest against the detector and the X-ray beam passing from back to front. It’s used to evaluate lungs, pleura, heart size and mediastinum, and to detect conditions such as pneumonia, pneumothorax, pleural effusion, fractures, and chronic lung disease. PA view reduces cardiac magnification versus AP.

In the U.S., an outpatient wrist X‑ray typically costs about $50–$300; ER or multiple‑view exams can be higher. In the U.K. it's free on the NHS; private scans run roughly £20–£120. In India, expect about ₹200–₹1,200. Final price depends on location, number of views, facility type, radiologist fees and whether insurance covers it.
