The skyline (patellar sunrise) view is an axial knee radiograph taken with the knee flexed to image the patellofemoral joint. The X‑ray beam is directed tangentially to the patella and trochlear groove, optimizing visualization of patellar facets, alignment, subluxation/dislocation, fractures, and cartilage/articular surface changes. It assesses patellar tracking and damage not seen on standard AP or lateral views.

Collimate to the joint, use shielding, and ask the patient to remain still.
