The Merchant view is an axial radiographic projection of the patellofemoral joint obtained with the knees flexed about 45° and the X‑ray beam angled approximately 30° caudally toward the patella. It demonstrates patellar position, the trochlear groove, joint space, and articular surfaces—helpful for detecting patellar subluxation, maltracking, chondromalacia, and degenerative changes.

Merchant view refers to the seller-facing dashboard or perspective on an e-commerce platform that lets vendors manage product listings, inventory, pricing, orders, payments, returns and customer messages. It provides operational tools—catalog management, order fulfillment workflows, shipping and tax settings—and performance analytics like sales, conversion rates and payouts. The merchant view helps sellers monitor business health, set promotions, resolve issues and comply with platform policies.

Standard baseline knee X‑rays are weight‑bearing anteroposterior (AP) and lateral views. For suspected early osteoarthritis, the Rosenberg (PA 45° flexion, weight‑bearing) view is more sensitive for joint‑space narrowing. A skyline (axial/patellar) view is added when patellofemoral pathology is suspected, and targeted oblique or trauma views are used for fractures. Overall, weight‑bearing AP plus lateral are the essential first‑line views.

The Merchant (patella) position is a tangential “sunrise” knee view with the knee flexed about 45° used to visualize the patellofemoral joint. It assesses patellar alignment, tilt, subluxation and articular cartilage defects or arthritis. Clinically, similar positioning permits inspection and palpation of patellar tracking, crepitus, and apprehension during range-of-motion testing.

The Merchant view is a specific standardized sunrise technique — typically a bilateral axial film with the knees flexed (often ~45°) and a set beam angle — used for reproducible comparison of patellar alignment and joint space.

The most common knee injury is a ligament sprain or tear, particularly the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in athletes. ACL injuries cause pain, swelling and instability and often follow twisting or sudden stops. Meniscal (cartilage) tears and patellar tendon injuries/tendonitis are also frequent across ages and activity levels; diagnosis typically requires clinical exam and imaging.
