X Ray Right Knee AP and Lateral Standing View

A standing AP and lateral (AP + lat) knee X-ray are two weight-bearing views taken while the patient stands. The AP (anteroposterior) view images the knee front-to-back; the lateral captures the side. Weight-bearing images reveal joint-space narrowing, alignment and degenerative changes under load, helping diagnose osteoarthritis, deformity, fractures and instability. The exam is quick and uses low-dose radiation.

AP (anteroposterior) view: X‑ray beam passes front-to-back through the body, producing a frontal image; often used when patients are supine or cannot stand. Lateral view: beam passes from one side to the other, producing a side profile that shows depth and overlap-free anatomy. Together they give orthogonal perspectives to localize fractures, assess alignment, detect fluid or consolidation, and evaluate joint spaces.

Knee AP (anteroposterior) and lateral are standard X‑ray views. AP is a front-to-back image taken with the knee extended or slightly flexed to assess joint space, bone alignment, fractures, degenerative changes and prostheses. Lateral is a side view that better visualizes the patella, femoral condyles, joint effusion, suprapatellar pouch and displaced fractures.

"Lat" on an X‑ray means "lateral" — a side‑view projection where the X‑ray beam passes from one side of the body to the other. Lateral films show depth and spatial relationships without front‑to‑back overlap, helping to localize lesions, assess lung and heart contours, spinal alignment, and joint or bone displacement. It’s used alongside frontal views for complete evaluation.
