X Ray PNS per view

An X‑ray PNS (paranasal sinuses) view is a plain radiograph series used to evaluate the sinuses for infection, fluid levels, mucosal thickening or facial fractures. Common projections include Waters (occipitomental), Caldwell and lateral views, obtained with specific head positions to project sinus air spaces free of overlying bones. It’s quick and low‑cost but less sensitive than CT for complex disease.

Seat the patient upright, remove jewelry, and extend the neck so the occipitomeatal line is about 37° to the image receptor (Waters/occipitomental). Center the CR perpendicular to the receptor, exiting at the acanthion. Include frontal, maxillary and ethmoid sinuses; collimate to the area. Ask the patient to suspend respiration at end-expiration to reduce motion and obtain the exposure.
