X Ray Pelvis AP View Weight Bearing, in Pimpri Chinchwad

The weight‑bearing axis of the pelvis transmits trunk load from the spine through the sacrum and sacroiliac joints into the pelvic ring and acetabula, then into the femoral heads and lower limbs. Anatomically it runs from the lumbosacral region through the sacrum and acetabular centers (hip joints) into the proximal femora, aligning axial loading from the trunk to the legs during stance and gait.

A pelvis AP X-ray is an anteroposterior radiograph taken with the X-ray beam passing front-to-back to image the pelvis, hips, sacrum and proximal femurs. It detects fractures, dislocations, degenerative changes, infections and tumors, and is commonly used after trauma or for hip pain. Preparation is minimal—remove metal; inform staff if pregnant. Radiation dose is low but kept as low as possible.

Weight-bearing hip X-rays are recommended for assessing joint space, alignment, and osteoarthritis because standing images reveal load-related narrowing and instability better than supine views. For acute trauma or suspected fractures, non–weight-bearing (supine) films or cross-table lateral views are preferred. If a patient cannot stand, seated views or alternative imaging (CT/MRI) may be used.

A weight-bearing X-ray is taken while the patient stands or places body weight through the limb or joint being imaged. It demonstrates joint space, alignment and collapse under physiological load, helping detect arthritis, instability, deformity or collapse that non–weight-bearing films can miss. Commonly used for knees, ankles, feet and spine; images may be taken standing or on one leg as needed.

Yes. The pelvis is a weight-bearing structure that transmits trunk and spinal loads through the sacroiliac joints into the hip sockets (acetabula) and then to the femurs during standing and walking. When sitting, weight shifts to the ischial tuberosities. The pelvic ring also stabilizes and protects pelvic organs while distributing forces across the hips and lower limbs.

The ideal pelvis for childbearing is the gynecoid pelvis. It features a rounded, roomy pelvic inlet, wide transverse diameter, shallow cavity, straight sacrum, everted ischial spines and a broad subpubic arch, giving the most space for fetal descent and rotation during labor. Other pelvic types (android, anthropoid, platypelloid) can make vaginal delivery more difficult.
