What is lumbar flexion and extension?

Lumbar flexion is forward bending of the lower spine that shortens posterior tissues, increases disc pressure and stretches back muscles and ligaments. Lumbar extension is backward bending that opens anterior structures, narrows facet joints and engages spinal extensor muscles. Flexion can aggravate disc problems; extension may reduce a disc bulge for some people but can worsen spinal stenosis or facet-related pain.

What are the 4 views of the lumbar spine?

The four standard lumbar spine radiographic views are: anteroposterior (AP), lateral, and the two oblique views (right and left). AP shows vertebral bodies and disc spaces; lateral demonstrates vertebral alignment, disc height, and the spinal canal; oblique views visualize the facet joints and pars interarticularis for spondylolysis or facet arthropathy, and to detect fractures or degenerative change.

What is a X Ray Dorsolumbar Spine Flexion Extension Test in Kanpur ?

What is X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION?

An X-ray dorsolumbar spine flexion extension takes images of the mid and lower back while you bend forward and backward. It measures how vertebrae move and fit together during motion. It is non-invasive and shows internal structures directly, providing information that blood and urine tests cannot.

What does X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION show?

That movement matters because excessive motion or slipping can pinch nerves, cause pain, or lead to spinal instability. The test helps detect spondylolisthesis, instability after injury or surgery, and degenerative joint disease. Doctors compare these dynamic views to regular spine X-rays to see how alignment changes with movement. Results help guide treatment decisions such as physical therapy, bracing, injections, or surgery.

What symptoms suggest X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION may be needed?

A doctor may recommend X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION when a patient reports localised pain, swelling, or injury, a lump or restricted movement, or an abnormal finding on an earlier test that needs to be examined directly. GetVisit makes testing convenient in Kanpur, with lab slots and home collection in Kalyanpur, Ashok Nagar, and nearby areas.

How is X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION done?

This is an imaging scan, not a blood or fluid test, so no sample is collected. A qualified radiographer positions you at an accredited GetVisit-partnered imaging centre in Kalyanpur or Ashok Nagar, Kanpur and captures the images in a few minutes. A radiologist reviews them and your report is made available through GetVisit.

How accurate is X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION?

Image quality and interpretation are the two pillars of accuracy. GetVisit's accredited centres serving Kalyanpur and Ashok Nagar, Kanpur maintain modern equipment, and a qualified radiologist reviews each study before the report is issued.

Are there any risks to X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION?

A standard X-ray uses a very low dose of radiation considered safe for diagnostic use; ultrasound uses sound waves and involves no radiation at all. If you are or might be pregnant, tell the centre in Kalyanpur or Ashok Nagar, Kanpur beforehand so the safest approach can be chosen. There is no needle and no recovery time.

Why Take a X Ray Dorsolumbar Spine Flexion Extension Test in Kanpur ?

When does a doctor order X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION?

X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION is ordered as part of spine imaging when patients have persistent or position-related back pain, leg pain, or suspected instability. It is often used when standard X-rays are unclear or after trauma.

Who should get X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION done in Kanpur?

Kanpur's large industrial population, severe air pollution, water-quality-linked liver-infection risk, and rising diabetes and heart-disease rates make regular preventive diagnostic testing especially important for residents across the city. Imaging benefits patients with pain, swelling, a palpable lump, injury, or an abnormal earlier finding, as well as those monitoring a known condition. GetVisit helps residents of Panki, Fazalganj, and across Kanpur book accredited imaging with clear pricing.

What can X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION help detect?

The test can reveal vertebral slipping, unstable fractures, or abnormal movement from degeneration or prior surgery. Family history of spinal problems may raise the need for this evaluation.

What do X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION results mean?

Findings are graded from normal to significant, and comparison with any previous scan shows whether a known finding is stable, improving, or progressing. Your doctor explains the report in the context of your symptoms. See the FAQs below for more detail on this scan.

How often should X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION be repeated?

For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends , typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.

What happens after X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION results are ready?

What is X-ray lumbar spine flexion and extension views?

X‑ray lumbar spine flexion and extension views are dynamic radiographs taken with the patient bending forward and backward to assess spinal alignment and motion. They detect abnormal vertebral translation or angulation (dynamic instability, spondylolisthesis), assess range of motion, and help evaluate degenerative or post‑traumatic changes not visible on static films. The exam is quick and uses low radiation.

What does a flexion-extension X-ray show?

A flexion-extension X‑ray captures spine images while you bend forward and backward to assess motion and alignment. It reveals abnormal vertebral movement, instability, spondylolisthesis, ligamentous injury, fusion integrity, and range-of-motion limitations from degenerative disease. It helps detect occult instability not seen on static films, guiding diagnosis and treatment decisions for cervical or lumbar spine disorders.

What is the normal flexion and extension of the lumbar spine?

Normal lumbar flexion is approximately 40–60 degrees, measured as forward bending from upright. Normal lumbar extension is roughly 20–35 degrees, measured as backward bending. These values refer to combined lumbar segment motion and are measured clinically (e.g. with an inclinometer); age, sex, and activity affect ranges, and marked limitation warrants assessment by clinicians.

What is a dynamic flexion and extension view?

A dynamic flexion and extension view is a pair of X‑ray images of the spine taken while the patient bends forward (flexion) and backward (extension). They evaluate segmental motion, alignment changes, and detect instability or abnormal vertebral translation (dynamic spondylolisthesis) not seen on static films. Measurements can quantify slip or angulation between vertebrae. Indications include persistent neck/back pain, suspected instability, trauma, or post‑operative assessment.

Is X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION safe if I am pregnant?

Tell the centre before X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION if you are or might be pregnant. Ultrasound and MRI use no ionising radiation; for X-ray or CT the team will decide the safest approach or suggest an alternative.

Do I need to fast before X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION?

Most scans need no fasting, but some abdominal ultrasounds require a few hours without food or a full bladder. Follow the specific instruction shown when you book X RAY DORSOLUMBAR SPINE FLEXION EXTENSION, or check with the centre.
