X Ray Dorso Lumbar Spine AP & Lateral View

A dorso-lumbar lateral view is a side (lateral) X-ray image of the dorsal (thoracic) and lumbar spine. It shows vertebral bodies, intervertebral disc spaces, alignment and spinal curvature to identify fractures, degenerative changes, disc height loss, stenosis or abnormal kyphosis/lordosis. It’s commonly used in trauma assessment and routine spine evaluation to guide diagnosis and treatment planning.

AP (anteroposterior) view: X‑ray beam travels from front to back of the body, commonly used when patients cannot stand; shows overall alignment and gross pathology. Lateral view: beam travels from one side to the other, producing a side‑on image that separates overlapping structures and adds depth. Together they provide orthogonal views to localize fractures, assess alignment, and detect effusions or masses.

Lumbar spine AP (anteroposterior) and lateral (side) are standard X‑ray views. AP projects X‑rays front‑to‑back to assess vertebral alignment, body shapes, transverse processes and pedicle symmetry. Lateral shows vertebral body heights, disc spaces, sagittal alignment, spinal canal and spondylolisthesis. Together they help detect fractures, degenerative changes, deformity and gross instability.

The dorso-lumbar spine is the transitional region where the thoracic (dorsal) vertebrae meet the lumbar vertebrae, typically around T10–L2. It bears high mechanical loads and permits trunk movement while protecting the nearby end of the spinal cord. As a biomechanical junction it’s prone to injury, degeneration and deformities; careful assessment and stabilization help manage pain and preserve spinal function.

Dorso‑lumbar spondylosis is age‑related degenerative change affecting the thoracic (dorsal) and lumbar spine. It involves disc dehydration, facet joint wear, and bone spur (osteophyte) formation, causing stiffness, local pain and possible nerve root compression producing radiating pain, numbness or weakness. Diagnosis uses clinical exam and imaging; treatment is usually conservative—analgesics, physiotherapy, posture correction, and occasionally injections or surgery for severe deficits.

A lateral view of the dorsal (thoracic) spine is a side-on X‑ray taken with the patient positioned so the beam passes from one side to the other. It shows vertebral bodies, intervertebral disc spaces, alignment, kyphosis and posterior elements to detect fractures, degenerative change, infection or deformity. It’s commonly used in trauma and chronic back‑pain assessment; further imaging may be required.
