X Ray Both Hip Lateral view., in Pimpri Chinchwad

A lateral hip X-ray is a side‑view radiograph that visualizes the femoral head, neck, acetabulum and surrounding soft tissues. It helps detect fractures, dislocations, arthritis, joint space narrowing, prosthesis position, infection or tumors. Typically performed alongside an AP hip view, it requires simple positioning and involves low radiation exposure; results guide diagnosis and treatment planning.

A lateral view of the hip bone is an imaging projection taken from the side to visualize the hip joint and proximal femur. It shows the femoral head and neck, greater trochanter, acetabulum and adjacent pelvic bones, helping detect fractures, dislocations, degenerative change, or joint‑space narrowing. Common techniques include frog‑leg lateral and cross‑table lateral, chosen by patient positioning and clinical need.

The lateral hip is the outer side of the hip region over the greater trochanter. It includes skin, subcutaneous tissue, the bony prominence, gluteal muscles and tendons, and bursae. It helps stabilize the pelvis during standing and walking. Pain here often stems from trochanteric bursitis or gluteal tendinopathy and can impair gait and daily activities.

The two standard hip X‑ray views are anteroposterior (AP) and lateral. The AP view images the pelvis and both hips to assess joint space, pelvic alignment, and femoral head/neck. The lateral view (commonly frog‑leg or cross‑table lateral) profiles the femoral neck and head, improving detection of fractures, dislocations, and impingement that may not appear on the AP view.

A lateral X‑ray view is a side-to-side projection where the X‑ray beam passes from one side of the body to the other, creating a profile image perpendicular to the front (AP/PA) view. It separates overlapping structures, shows depth and alignment, aids fracture, lung, spine and joint assessment, and helps locate lesions or air/fluid levels. The patient stands, sits, or lies with the side of interest against the detector.

Lateral hip surgery is an operation accessing the hip from the side to treat fractures, perform hip replacement, or repair soft tissues. The lateral (direct lateral) approach splits or partially detaches the hip abductor muscles for exposure, offering stable implant positioning and lower dislocation risk. Risks include temporary limp, abductor weakness, and nerve injury. Recovery involves pain control, wound care and progressive physiotherapy with guided weight‑bearing.
