What is a V/Q Scan (Both Lung Perfusion and Lung Ventilation) Test in Chandigarh ?
What is V/Q Scan (Both Lung Perfusion and Lung Ventilation)?
A V/Q scan measures how well air reaches different parts of your lungs (ventilation) and how well blood flows through the lung tissue (perfusion). It looks for areas where air and blood flow do not match.
What does V/Q Scan show?
This is important because mismatches can reduce oxygen delivery to the body. Doctors commonly use the test to check for pulmonary embolism and to evaluate unexplained shortness of breath. It is also used when CT scans are unsafe or unclear. Results help guide treatment decisions, such as blood thinners, further imaging, or surgery planning.
What symptoms suggest V/Q Scan may be needed?
V/Q Scan is generally requested as part of a imaging assessment. Doctors commonly investigate this area when someone reports localised pain, swelling, or injury, a lump or restricted movement, or an abnormal finding on an earlier test that needs to be examined directly. Whether V/Q Scan specifically is the right test depends on your history and what your doctor is looking for. Sample collection for Chandigarh is available at partner labs, with home collection in many areas including Sector 17 and Sector 11; you can confirm availability for your address at booking.
How is V/Q Scan done?
No needle or sample is involved. At an accredited imaging centre serving Sector 17 and Sector 11, Chandigarh, a radiographer performs the scan, which is painless and usually completed within 10 to 15 minutes. A qualified radiologist interprets the images and issues a report you can access on GetVisit. (Home collection does not apply to imaging.)
How accurate is V/Q Scan?
GetVisit partners only with accredited imaging centres in and around Sector 17, Sector 11, and Chandigarh that use maintained, calibrated equipment and qualified radiographers. Every scan is interpreted by a qualified radiologist, and reports are accepted by hospital networks, specialists, and insurers across India.
Are there any risks to V/Q Scan?
Imaging is safe and non-invasive. Ultrasound and MRI use no ionising radiation; X-ray and CT use carefully controlled low doses justified by the diagnostic benefit. Inform staff at the Sector 17 or Sector 11, Chandigarh centre if you are pregnant or have implants or metal devices, so precautions can be taken.
Did you know?
The test is noninvasive and gives a clear picture of lung function.
V/Q Scan (Both Lung Perfusion and Lung Ventilation) Test Preparation in Chandigarh
Fasting and dietary instructions:
Most imaging scans need no fasting. Some abdominal ultrasounds require a few hours of fasting or a full bladder, so follow the specific instruction shown when you book, or ask the centre.
Medication guidance:
Continue your regular medication unless told otherwise. Tell the centre if you have diabetes, kidney problems, or allergies, especially if a contrast study is planned.
What to bring:
Bring your doctor's referral, a valid photo ID, your insurance card if using cashless OPD, and any previous scans or reports so the radiologist can compare.

Why Take a V/Q Scan (Both Lung Perfusion and Lung Ventilation) Test in Chandigarh ?
When does a doctor order V/Q Scan (Both Lung Perfusion and Lung Ventilation)?
V/Q Scan (Both Lung Perfusion and Lung Ventilation) is an imaging study used in the workup for suspected pulmonary embolism and other causes of unexplained breathlessness. Doctors order it when symptoms include sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, or low oxygen levels, or when CT scanning is not suitable.
Who should get V/Q Scan done in Chandigarh?
Chandigarh's administrative, education and IT workforce, rich regional diet driving high diabetes and cardiovascular prevalence, winter air pollution, and large student population make regular preventive testing worthwhile citywide. Those who benefit most from V/Q Scan include patients needing structural assessment that bloodwork cannot provide, and anyone under surveillance for a previously detected abnormality in Chandigarh.
What can V/Q Scan help detect?
The conditions diagnosable through V/Q Scan depend on the specific markers the test measures. Results either confirm a suspected diagnosis, support a clinical suspicion requiring further investigation, or effectively exclude the condition the test was screening for. Abnormal results can come from blood clots, lung disease, or reduced blood flow. A family history of blood clotting disorders makes this test more important.
What do V/Q Scan results mean?
Findings are graded from normal to significant, and comparison with any previous scan shows whether a known finding is stable, improving, or progressing. Your doctor explains the report in the context of your symptoms. See the FAQs below for more detail on this scan.
How often should V/Q Scan be repeated?
For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends, typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.
What happens after your V/Q Scan results are ready?
Results are delivered to your phone and stored securely on GetVisit. Any value the laboratory flags as critical is escalated for urgent review, and for everything else your doctor or a verified specialist can guide the next step at your convenience.
