Urine Routine -Post Prandial, in Navi Mumbai

A postprandial urine routine collects a midstream urine sample about two hours after a meal to check for glycosuria and related abnormalities. Procedure: wash hands and clean the genital area, collect midstream urine into a sterile container, note time since eating, and deliver to the lab promptly (or refrigerate briefly). Tests include glucose, ketones, protein and microscopy for metabolic or diabetes evaluation.

A postprandial urine test involves collecting a clean-catch urine sample about two hours after a meal to check for substances that change after eating—commonly glucose, ketones, proteins, or metabolites. It helps detect glycosuria and assess post-meal blood sugar control, renal glucose threshold, and metabolic abnormalities. Results are interpreted alongside blood glucose and clinical context; abnormal findings prompt further testing.

No — fasting is not required for a routine urine (urinalysis). Collect a clean-catch midstream sample as instructed; for some tests a first‑morning, concentrated specimen is preferred. Avoid vigorous exercise, sexual activity, or contamination before collection. Follow any specific lab or clinician instructions, since certain specialized urine tests (e.g., glucose tolerance or some hormone assays) may need different preparation.

A normal urine routine shows pale yellow, clear urine with pH about 4.5–8.0 and specific gravity 1.005–1.030. Chemical testing is negative for glucose, blood, nitrites, and leukocyte esterase; protein is absent or only trace. Ketones and bilirubin are absent. Microscopy typically shows few or no red or white blood cells, no significant bacteria, and no pathological casts or crystals.

Postprandial refers to blood glucose after a meal. In people without diabetes, a normal 2‑hour postprandial glucose is usually below about 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L). For people with diabetes, common clinical targets aim for less than 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L) one to two hours after eating. Individual targets may vary by age, health status and clinician recommendations.

Treatment depends on cause. For postprandial hypotension: eat smaller, low‑carbohydrate meals, avoid alcohol, stay seated after eating, increase fluids and salt if advised, wear compression stockings and discuss medication options with your doctor. For postprandial hyperglycemi
