Urine Ketones, in Pimpri Chinchwad

Ketones in urine mean the body is breaking down fat for energy because glucose is unavailable or can't be used. Causes include fasting, low‑carb/keto diets, prolonged exercise, vomiting, or uncontrolled diabetes. Small amounts can be normal during dieting or illness; moderate to large amounts in people with diabetes may signal insulin deficiency and risk of diabetic ketoacidosis and require urgent medical evaluation.

To reduce ketones in urine, drink plenty of fluids, eat regular carbohydrate-containing meals or glucose if needed, rest and avoid strenuous exercise, and re-test ketones frequently. If you have diabetes, check blood glucose and follow sick‑day insulin/medication guidance or adjust only as advised by your clinician. Seek urgent care for moderate/large ketones, persistent vomiting, breathlessness, confusion, or very high blood sugar.

Finding ketones in urine doesn't necessarily mean dehydration. Ketonuria shows your body is breaking down fat for fuel (ketosis)—seen with fasting, low‑carb diets, prolonged exercise, illness or uncontrolled diabetes. Dehydration can concentrate urine and make ketones easier to detect, but it doesn't cause ketone production. If you have diabetes, high ketones or symptoms (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion) seek medical advice and rehydrate.

Ketones in urine reflect the body burning fat for energy (fasting, low‑carb diets, prolonged vomiting, dehydration, or uncontrolled diabetes). They are not a specific sign of a urinary tract infection. However, severe infections or illness can cause metabolic stress and—especially in people with diabetes—lead to dangerous high ketone states. If you find ketones or have concerning symptoms, see a clinician promptly.

High ketones can cause excessive thirst, frequent urination, dry mouth, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, fruity acetone breath, rapid or deep breathing, fatigue, headache, confusion or difficulty concentrating, blurred vision, dizziness, and lightheadedness. In severe cases symptoms may progress to weakness, rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure and altered consciousness, so seek medical attention promptly.

Yes. Physical or emotional stress raises stress hormones (cortisol, adrenaline), which increase glucose production, cause insulin resistance, and stimulate fat breakdown. The resulting rise in free fatty acids can trigger hepatic ketone production and lead to ketones in urine. Mild ketonuria may occur with fasting, illness, or dehydration; in people with diabetes it can signal dangerous ketosis/ketoacidosis—seek medical advice if high ketones or symptoms occur.
