What is the difference between void and post void?

Void refers to the act of emptying the bladder, i.e. urination. Post-void means the period immediately after urination and is used in terms like post-void residual (the urine remaining in the bladder after voiding) or post-void dribble (small leakage after finishing). Measuring post-void residual helps assess bladder emptying and identify urinary retention or other lower urinary tract problems.

What is a post void residue in a female?

Post-void residual (PVR) in a female is the volume of urine left in the bladder after urination. It’s measured by bladder ultrasound or catheterization. Normal PVR is generally low (often <50–100 mL); higher volumes indicate incomplete emptying and possible urinary retention from pelvic organ prolapse, obstruction, detrusor underactivity, or neurologic disease. Elevated PVR raises risk of urinary infection and may need further evaluation.

Ultrasound Whole Abdomen And Pelvis Post Void, in Patna

Q: What is post void in ultrasound?

Post-void in ultrasound refers to the post-void residual (PVR) measurement—the volume of urine remaining in the bladder after urination. A bladder ultrasound noninvasively estimates this to assess bladder emptying and detect urinary retention. It's used when evaluating incontinence, benign prostatic hyperplasia, neurogenic bladder, or recurrent UTIs; values under about 50–100 mL are generally considered acceptable.

Q: What is a normal post void urine volume?

Normal post-void residual (PVR) urine is generally less than 50 mL. Up to about 100 mL may be acceptable in older adults, but volumes >100 mL suggest incomplete bladder emptying and warrant evaluation; volumes above 200 mL are usually clinically significant. PVR is measured by bladder ultrasound or catheterization and interpreted alongside symptoms and clinical context.

What is a Ultrasound Whole Abdomen And Pelvis Post Void Test in Patna ?

What is ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST VOID?

An ultrasound whole abdomen and pelvis post void is a safe imaging scan that uses sound waves to make pictures of organs. It shows the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, bladder and reproductive organs.

What does ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST show?

The post-void part means the bladder is imaged after you urinate to measure how much urine remains. This helps find stones, masses, fluid collections, organ enlargement, or urinary retention. Doctors order it for unexplained belly pain, abnormal blood or urine tests, blood in the urine, or follow-up of known problems. Results help guide treatment, decide if further tests are needed, and monitor progress without using radiation.

What symptoms suggest ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST may be needed?

A doctor may recommend ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST when a patient reports localised pain, swelling, or injury, a lump or restricted movement, or an abnormal finding on an earlier test that needs to be examined directly. In Patna, you can book this test online with home collection available in Sheikhpura, Danapur, and beyond.

How is ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST done?

No needle or sample is involved. At an accredited imaging centre serving Sheikhpura and Danapur, Patna, a radiographer performs the scan, which is painless and usually completed within 10 to 15 minutes. A qualified radiologist interprets the images and issues a report you can access on GetVisit. (Home collection does not apply to imaging.)

How accurate is ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST?

GetVisit partners only with accredited imaging centres in and around Sheikhpura, Danapur, and Patna that use maintained, calibrated equipment and qualified radiographers. Every scan is interpreted by a qualified radiologist, and reports are accepted by hospital networks, specialists, and insurers across India.

Are there any risks to ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST?

A standard X-ray uses a very low dose of radiation considered safe for diagnostic use; ultrasound uses sound waves and involves no radiation at all. If you are or might be pregnant, tell the centre in Sheikhpura or Danapur, Patna beforehand so the safest approach can be chosen. There is no needle and no recovery time.

Normal post-void residual (PVR) urine is generally less than 50 mL.

Who should get ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST done in Patna?

Patna's Ganga floodplain geography and monsoon waterborne-infection burden, widespread iron and vitamin deficiency, rising diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and hot summers make regular preventive diagnostic testing especially valuable for residents across the city. Imaging benefits patients with pain, swelling, a palpable lump, injury, or an abnormal earlier finding, as well as those monitoring a known condition. GetVisit helps residents of Sheikhpura, Danapur, and across Patna book accredited imaging with clear pricing.

What can ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST help detect?

It helps diagnose stones, cysts, tumors, infection, hydronephrosis, and urinary retention. A family history of kidney, bladder, or abdominal cancers may make this scan more likely to be recommended.

Findings are graded from normal to significant, and comparison with any previous scan shows whether a known finding is stable, improving, or progressing. Your doctor explains the report in the context of your symptoms. See the FAQs below for more detail on this scan.

How often should ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST be repeated?

For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends, typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.

What is ultrasound of the abdomen with post void residual?

An ultrasound of the abdomen with post-void residual is a noninvasive scan using sound waves to image abdominal organs and measure bladder emptying. The bladder is imaged before and after urination to calculate post-void residual volume, which helps detect urinary retention, incomplete emptying, causes of incontinence, or assess treatment response. It’s quick, painless, and involves no radiation.

How do you treat post void urinary retention?

Treat post-void urinary retention by confirming residual volume with a bladder scan and relieving acute retention via catheterization (urethral or suprapubic). For chronic cases, clean intermittent catheterization or a long-term suprapubic catheter may be used. Address underlying causes, stop offending drugs, treat infections, consider alpha‑blockers for BPH, pelvic‑floor therapy, or surgical relief if obstruction persists, with regular monitoring.

Is ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST VOID safe if I am pregnant?

Tell the centre before ULTRASOUND WHOLE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS POST VOID if you are or might be pregnant. Ultrasound and MRI use no ionising radiation; for X-ray or CT the team will decide the safest approach or suggest an alternative.
