Thyroid Panel - IV( FT3, FT4, TSH)

The thyroid FT3 FT4 TSH test is a blood panel measuring free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), and thyroid‑stimulating hormone (TSH). It evaluates thyroid gland function, helps diagnose hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, guides treatment and monitoring, and can detect pituitary-related disorders. Typical patterns: high TSH with low FT4 indicates primary hypothyroidism; low TSH with high FT4/FT3 suggests hyperthyroidism.

Fasting is generally not required for FT3, FT4, and TSH blood tests. A morning sample is usually preferred, and it’s best to have the test at a consistent time. Physical or emotional stress can alter the hypothalamic‑pituitary‑thyroid axis and cause transient changes in TSH — often mild suppression during acute stress or illness and variable effects with chronic stress. These fluctuations usually don’t indicate permanent thyroid disease but can affect test interpretation. If TSH is abnormal, repeat testing when well and discuss evaluation and stress management with your clinician.
