How serious is deletion syndrome?

Deletion syndromes (chromosomal or gene deletions) vary widely in seriousness. Outcomes depend on which genes are lost, deletion size, and affected organs. Consequences can range from mild learning or growth differences to major congenital anomalies, cardiac defects, developmental delays, and increased medical needs; some can be life-threatening. Early genetic diagnosis, multidisciplinary care, and targeted therapies often improve health and developmental outcomes.

What is 21q22 13 deletion syndrome?

21q22.13 deletion syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder caused by loss of genetic material on chromosome 21 (region q22.13). It commonly leads to developmental delay, intellectual disability, low muscle tone, distinctive facial features, feeding problems, congenital heart defects and variable growth issues. Most cases arise de novo. Diagnosis uses chromosomal microarray or genetic testing; management is supportive and multidisciplinary.

What is a TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22) Test in Indore ?

What is TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22)?

TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22) testing looks for a specific fusion between two genes called ETV6 (TEL) and RUNX1 (AML1). This fusion results from a small swap of genetic material between chromosomes 12 and 21.

What does TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22) measure?

The change affects how early white blood cells grow and mature. Detecting the fusion helps confirm a diagnosis of B‑cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is especially important in children, where this rearrangement is common. The result also gives doctors prognostic information and can influence how aggressive treatment should be.

What symptoms suggest TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22) may be needed?

A doctor may recommend TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22) when a patient reports any symptom your doctor has identified as requiring objective laboratory investigation , including unexplained fatigue, unexplained weight change, persistent pain, fever, or abnormal bleeding. In Indore, you can book this test online with home collection available in Rau, Rajwada, and beyond.

How is TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22) performed?

This test is performed on a swab or fluid sample collected by a trained healthcare professional, not on a routine blood draw. Collection is quick and done at a GetVisit-partnered lab or collection point in Rau or Rajwada, Indore, after which the sample is dispatched to the NABL-accredited lab for processing.

How accurate is TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22)?

Samples collected in Rau or Rajwada, Indore are processed at NABL-accredited labs using validated methods and internal quality control. Accuracy depends on correct collection technique by a trained professional, which GetVisit's partnered centres follow. Reports are accepted by hospitals, specialists, and insurers across India.

Are there any risks to TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22)?

Risk is minimal. Swab, sputum, or fluid collection by a trained professional in Rau or Rajwada, Indore may cause brief, mild discomfort but no lasting effects. Any specific precaution for your test will be explained at the collection centre.

What is T 12 21 in AML?

t(12;21)(p13;q22) is a chromosomal translocation that fuses ETV6 (TEL) on chromosome 12 with RUNX1 (AML1) on chromosome 21, creating an ETV6–RUNX1 fusion protein. It is classically seen in pediatric B‑cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia and is rare in acute myeloid leukemia. The fusion disrupts normal blood‑cell development and can influence diagnosis, classification, and treatment decisions.

What is the 21q22 deletion syndrome?

21q22 deletion syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder caused by loss of genetic material on the long arm (q22) of chromosome 21. It leads to variable intellectual disability, developmental delay, distinct facial features, low muscle tone, growth delay and commonly congenital heart defects; seizures and other anomalies may occur. Severity depends on deletion size. Diagnosis uses genetic testing and management is supportive and multidisciplinary.

How is AML confirmed?

AML is confirmed by blood tests showing abnormal white cells and blasts, followed by a bone marrow aspirate/biopsy demonstrating ≥20% myeloblasts. Diagnosis is refined with flow cytometry (immunophenotyping), cytogenetic and molecular testing (karyotype, FISH, PCR) to identify chromosomal or molecular abnormalities. Additional tests (lumbar puncture, biochemical panels, infection screens) assess spread and guide prognosis and therapy planning.

What is the meaning of T 21?

T 21 refers to Trisomy 21, the chromosomal condition that causes Down syndrome. It results from an extra copy of chromosome 21 (full or mosaic), leading to developmental delay, characteristic facial features, low muscle tone and higher risk of congenital heart defects, hearing, vision and thyroid issues. Management emphasizes early intervention, therapies and regular medical follow‑up; outcomes improve with appropriate care.

Can I exercise before TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22)?

Avoid strenuous exercise for 12 to 24 hours before TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22), since intense activity can temporarily change several blood markers. Light everyday movement is fine.

Can I take my diabetes medication before TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22)?

If you take insulin or diabetes tablets and are fasting for TEL (12p13)/AML1(21q22)-t(12;21)(p13;q22), ask your doctor whether to delay the dose until after the sample is collected, to avoid a low-sugar episode.
