What is a TDT Test (Tone Decay Test) Test in Kanpur ?
What is TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST)?
The Tone Decay Test (TDT) measures how long a person can hear a steady pure tone presented at a comfortable loudness. It checks whether the ear and auditory nerve keep responding over time. Physical examination provides clues; a test result removes ambiguity and allows targeted, evidence-based management to begin promptly.
What does TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) measure?
This is important because a rapid decrease in hearing of the tone can suggest nerve or retrocochlear problems rather than just inner ear (cochlear) loss. Doctors use TDT alongside hearing tests and speech tests. It helps decide whether further investigations, like imaging or specialist referral, are needed to look for tumors, nerve disorders, or certain neurological diseases. The test is quick and done in a sound-treated room by an audiologist.
What symptoms suggest TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) may be needed?
A doctor may recommend TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) when a patient reports any symptom your doctor has identified as requiring objective laboratory investigation , including unexplained fatigue, unexplained weight change, persistent pain, fever, or abnormal bleeding. If you have these symptoms, GetVisit offers booking and home collection across Rawatpur, Fazalganj, and other parts of Kanpur.
How is TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) performed?
A trained professional collects the required sample (swab, sputum, or fluid) at a GetVisit collection centre in Rawatpur or Fazalganj, Kanpur using sterile technique. The sample is barcoded and transported to the NABL lab, and your digital report follows in the GetVisit app once results are authorised.
How accurate is TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST)?
Samples collected in Rawatpur or Fazalganj, Kanpur are processed at NABL-accredited labs using validated methods and internal quality control. Accuracy depends on correct collection technique by a trained professional, which GetVisit's partnered centres follow. Reports are accepted by hospitals, specialists, and insurers across India.
Are there any risks to TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST)?
Risk is minimal. Swab, sputum, or fluid collection by a trained professional in Rawatpur or Fazalganj, Kanpur may cause brief, mild discomfort but no lasting effects. Any specific precaution for your test will be explained at the collection centre.
Did you know?
The tone decay test (TDT) assesses auditory nerve function by presenting a continuous pure tone at or near hearing threshold and asking the patient whether it fades over about 10 seconds.

Why Take a TDT Test (Tone Decay Test) Test in Kanpur ?
When does a doctor order TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST)?
TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) is usually part of an audiology battery used when patients have unexplained or one-sided hearing loss, persistent ringing (tinnitus), or uneven speech understanding. Doctors order it to help distinguish cochlear (inner ear) problems from retrocochlear or nerve-related conditions.
Who should get TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) done in Kanpur?
Kanpur's large industrial population, severe air pollution, water-quality-linked liver-infection risk, and rising diabetes and heart-disease rates make regular preventive diagnostic testing especially important for residents across the city. This test benefits patients whose symptoms need a definitive laboratory answer, such as a persistent infection, an unexplained lump, or an abnormal fluid collection. In Kanpur, GetVisit coordinates collection and NABL processing for residents of Saket Nagar, Harsh Nagar, and across the city.
What conditions can TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) help diagnose?
Abnormal results can come from nerve tumors, demyelinating disease, severe cochlear damage, or ototoxic medications. A family history of nerve tumors or neurological disease can make this test especially important.
What do TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) results mean?
Your result is read against the reference range printed on your GetVisit report for your age and sex, and always alongside your symptoms and history. A single value slightly outside the range does not by itself confirm a problem, your doctor decides whether it is significant. The specific high and low patterns for this test are explained in the FAQs below.
How often should TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) be repeated?
For preventive screening with a normal baseline: annually for most adults above 35. For monitoring a known condition: at the interval your specialist recommends , typically every 3 to 6 months for active conditions and annually for stable, well-controlled ones.
What happens after TDT TEST (TONE DECAY TEST) results are ready?
Once your results appear in your GetVisit profile, discuss them with your doctor or a GetVisit-verified specialist. Your doctor will interpret each value in the context of your full health history, current medications, and symptoms, and advise on the next step: lifestyle change, repeat testing, medication adjustment, or specialist referral. All GetVisit reports are stored permanently and can be shared with any doctor instantly.
