TB Sure

TB Sure is a rapid serological blood test that claims to detect antibodies to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Such antibody-based tests are not recommended for diagnosing active TB because they give unreliable results. Accurate diagnosis uses sputum microscopy/culture, nucleic acid amplification tests (e.g., GeneXpert), chest imaging and immune tests (TST/IGRA); clinical assessment and specialist referral are essential for suspected TB.

A definitive diagnosis of active pulmonary TB is made by microbiological confirmation: culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from respiratory specimens (the gold standard), or rapid molecular tests (NAAT/PCR, e.g., Xpert) and sputum acid‑fast bacillus smear. Chest X‑ray supports the diagnosis. Latent TB is detected by the tuberculin skin test or interferon‑gamma release assays (IGRAs).

TB testing costs vary by test, location and provider. A tuberculin skin test (Mantoux) is often free at public clinics or low-cost at private providers (roughly $10–$50/£10–£50). Blood-based IGRA tests (QuantiFERON or T‑SPOT) are pricier, commonly about $50–$200 (≈£40–£150). Many health services offer testing free for eligible people or covered by insurance.

A positive TB test (Mantoux/TST or blood IGRA) means your immune system has reacted to TB antigens, suggesting TB infection but not proving active disease.
