STRESS THALLIUM STUDY, in Vasai Virar

Costs vary by country and facility. In the United States a thallium nuclear stress test typically costs about $700–$3,500 (self-pay), depending on imaging and facility. In India private hospitals charge roughly ₹3,000–₹20,000. In the UK it’s generally covered by the NHS; private clinics charge around £300–£800. Final price depends on location, imaging type, and insurance coverage.

After a thallium stress test you are monitored until heart rate, blood pressure and symptoms return to baseline. Images are processed to evaluate blood flow and viable heart muscle; the radiotracer activity declines quickly and poses minimal risk. Mild side effects (nausea, dizziness) are uncommon. Your clinician will review results, explain findings, and recommend further testing or treatment if areas of reduced perfusion or ischemia are found.

Stress thallium (nuclear) and coronary angiography serve different roles: stress thallium is noninvasive, assesses blood flow and ischemia for diagnosis and risk stratification; invasive coronary angiography is the gold standard for defining coronary anatomy and allows immediate intervention. Use stress imaging first for intermediate risk; angiography is preferred for high-risk patients, positive stress tests, or likely revascularization. Both carry radiation; angiography adds contrast and procedural risks.

A thallium myocardial perfusion stress test detects coronary artery disease with moderate-to-high accuracy: sensitivity typically about 80–90% and specificity around 60–80%. Accuracy varies with patient factors (obesity, prior heart attack), test technique, and disease prevalence; false positives and negatives occur. It’s useful for diagnosis and risk stratification but may be followed by coronary angiography for definitive assessment.

Thallium stress test is generally safe for most people. It involves small radiation exposure and carries low risk of side effects—mild allergic reactions, nausea, dizziness, arrhythmias or chest pain from the stress portion; serious complications are rare. Avoid in pregnancy and discuss breastfeeding, kidney problems, or medications with your clinician. Benefits in diagnosing heart disease usually outweigh its minimal risks.

A stress thallium (nuclear) test usually takes about 2–4 hours from start to finish. Preparation and tracer injection add 15–30 minutes; imaging at rest and after exercise or pharmacologic stress typically requires 30–60 minutes each, with short waits for tracer uptake between steps. Complex protocols or delayed imaging can extend the visit, so expect roughly a half‑day appointment.
